Ultimately, the weight limit for the tilt section had to be re-assessed, and I redesigned it to be stronger, using a massive cast-iron gear. This drawing shows my modifications of the open iron gear we used. Besides re-boring it, and drilling mounting holes, I needed to have a section of the gear planed down to mate it to a mounting plate.
